Last year I had the pleasure of teaching Loreto College Marryatville year eleven students my approach to portraiture as part of the college's Artist in Residence program. Over the period of a term, I guided the students through conceptual approaches to drawing the human head and the basics of painting skin tones using a limited palette. Each student showed tremendous enthusiasm and capability in the difficult task of working from the live model. I look forward to watching their progress as they take on year 12 in 2018.
In addition to teaching, as part of the residency I set up a still life and brought this work to completion, inviting students of other year levels to come and talk about the process.
Loreto provides a vibrant arts program for their students (a special thanks to the committed work of Jacky Hamilton) and I was very grateful to have been involved in the students' learning though this residency.
